Jordan Hendrikse is relishing the opportunity to showcase his skills across the Springbok backline after his late call-up for the November tour.

The Sharks playmaker joined the world champions in Jersey on Thursday after tighthead prop Frans Malherbe was forced to remain in South Africa due to injury.

Hendrikse – the younger brother of World Cup-winning scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse – started his first and only Test against Wales in London in June in the Boks' opening match of the season, while he was also named in Bok coach Rassie Erasmus' standby squad for the July incoming series.

The 22-year-old Hendrikse is eager to make the most of his unexpected return to the national team in the UK, which includes matches against Scotland, England, and Wales.

He has the versatility that could make him a valuable asset for the Boks, with the ability to play at flyhalf, inside centre, and fullback.

"I've always made fun of being a 'universal plug,' able to play in different positions, but my preferred position is definitely flyhalf," Hendrikse was quoted by News24.

Having gained experience across the backline with the Lions and now the Sharks, he's ready to step up wherever he's needed. His powerful boot and reliable defence make him a viable back-up, adding depth to South Africa's backline.

Reflecting on the opportunity to join fellow playmakers Handre Pollard and Manie Libbok, Hendrikse values the learning experience.

"It's always competitive, but I've learned a lot from them. It's about helping each other and wanting the best for whoever plays on Saturday," he shared.

“I would say our role is to make ourselves selectable for the next three games and hopefully feature, whether it’s next week or the next two games after that.

“I’m just grateful to be in the set-up again, but it’s important to be selectable over the next two or three games.”

In September, Hendrikse nailed a 59m penalty after the hooter for the Sharks to win the Currie Cup, and the former Junior Bok star is riding that wave of confidence.

"Those are moments you don't get often. I was blessed to win for my team, and it's given me a boost heading into the URC and Bok setup,” he concluded.
