Hendrikse bros team up to beat Bulls

Brothers Jaden and Jordan Hendrikse combined to score 13 points as the Sharks preyed on the Bulls at Kings Park on Saturday.
Jaden dotted down for the hosts while Jordan added eight points from the tee to go with a penalty try as the Sharks won 20-17 to extend their streak to four successive URC victories, their fifth of the season and first against the Bulls in almost two years.
The Sharks were disrupted before the first whistle when captain Siya Kolisi (calf), hooker Dylan Richardson and lock Emile van Heerden (both illness) were pre-game withdrawals. Richardson’s replacement, Ethan Bester was then escorted off the field in the 17th minute with what appeared to be a concussion suffered in a tackle on Bulls flanker Cam Hanekom.

The Hendrikses didn’t seem to notice, combining to give the Sharks a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter – Jordan kicking a penalty and then converting a try from Jaden. But the Bulls responded with tries from Cobus Wiese and Harold Vorster, converted by Johan Goosen, to take a 14-10 lead into the break.
Goosen added another penalty before winger Sebastian de Klerk was dubiously yellow carded and the Sharks awarded a penalty try to level the score at 17-17.
Jordan Hendrikse closed out the third quarter with another three points with the boot and the Bulls had an opportunity to return the favour in the dying minutes. Instead, they opted for an attacking lineout to try and win the game. It was a decision they would come to rue as a knock on gave the Sharks the scrum feed, and Jaden punted the pill into touch for the win.
Next up, the Sharks travel to Cape Town to battle the Stormers, while the Bulls have completed their 2024 schedule and will resume duty on 11 January when they travel to face Castres in the Champions Cup.
