The Leicester Tigers are reportedly considering an approach for Glasgow Warriors coach Franco Smith.

Current Tigers boss Michael Cheika is expected to return to Australia at the end of the 2024-25 season in the hope of getting a rugby league coaching gig in the NRL.

Cheika, a second-generation Lebanese Australian, coached Lebanon at the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.

RugbyPass recently reported that the Tigers had interviewed Graham Rowntree, who was an assistant coach at the club in 2007-08 and left his role as Munster head coach last October.

OPINION: Franco could face Boks or Scots decision

Now the website claims Leinster are looking at Smith, who coached Glasgow to the Vodacom URC title last season, with a famous win in the final against the Vodacom Bulls at Loftus.

The 52-year-old’s contract with the Scottish club ends in 2026, and he has been tipped as a possible replacement for Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend.
