Gloucester have secured the services of a powerful and versatile loose forward who brings plenty of energy and dynamism to the English Premiership outfit.

The 28-year-old James Venter has sealed a move to the Cherry & Whites from next season, ending his five-year stay at Kings Park.

Venter, who previously played for the Lions, brings impressive credentials after lifting the EPCR Challenge Cup with the Sharks and featuring in quarter-final campaigns across the Vodacom URC and Investec Champions Cup.

Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington believes Venter will inject excitement into their squad. “James will be a really welcome addition here at Kingsholm, and we’re delighted to get the deal over the line,” Skivington told the club's website.

“He’ll bring energy and power in attack and defence, and I know they’re things that will excite the crowd and get them off their seats.”

Venter is equally enthusiastic about the move: “I’m pleased to have signed for Gloucester next season. I was really impressed by the vision the club has for the future, and I’m looking forward to playing my part in that.

“I’ve heard amazing things about Kingsholm and the incredible support from the fans. That played a huge role in my decision to move to England. I can’t wait to experience it all firsthand!”
