Joseph Dweba has reportedly turned down the offer of a R1 million salary increase from a Premiership club to stay with the DHL Stormers.

According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, Dweba received a lucrative offer to join Sale Sharks, and the Stormers were reportedly willing to release Dweba from his current contract, which runs until June 2025.

However, the Bok hooker has opted to stick with the Stormers, changing his Whatsapp status to “I’m here to stay.”

The 28-year-old made 20 appearances for the Stormers last season, but has dropped out of the top three in the Springbok pecking order.

Vodacom Bulls hookers Johan Grobbelaar and Jan-Hendrik Wessels were both named ahead of Dweba in the 39-player squad for the Test series against Ireland. Dweba and fellow Stormers hooker Andre-Hugo Venter were included on the 14-man standby list.

Dweba losing his status as a ‘Player of National Interest’ (Poni) has impacted the Stormers in that they no longer receive a top-up contribution from SA Rugby to supplement his salary.
