Cash credits Glasgow for 'attacking masterclass'

Lions coach Cash van Rooyen tipped his hat to the quality of URC champions Glasgow on Saturday, and targets redemption in Edinburgh on Friday.
Buffeted by 70kmph gusts down the length of the field, the match was heavily influenced by conditions, as highlighted by the fact that all of the points were scored in the first half when the hosts played with a tailwind.
“Glasgow’s attack is the best we have faced this year,” said Van Rooyen. “They put on an attacking masterclass that we couldn’t deal with.

“These were the most difficult conditions we have ever played or trained in. At some points the wind was over 50 miles per hour. We couldn’t adapt and use it to our advantage while they used it well in the first half.
“We weren’t accurate enough on defence and didn’t adapt quickly enough. When you give them the ball for free, they are really good at keeping it and will punish you.
“They outplayed us.”
The Lions face Edinburgh in the EPCR Challenge Cup on Friday before returning to the Republic. With their last four URC fixtures at Ellis Park, they have no room for error after a poor European tour left their playoff hopes hanging in the balance.
“The last four games are non-negotiable,” Van Rooyen added. “We know what needs to happen back home and we want 20 points.”

“We are on our way to Edinburgh with a slightly different mindset. A win is enough to progress. They’ve got a similar playstyle and X factor to Glasgow, so it’s important for us to learn the lessons. Scottish teams attack in a certain way so we need to be ready.
“We can’t take as long to adapt in the next game. Hopefully the weather will be better. It’s a knockout game in Scotland, and a week in rugby is a long time so we need to regroup and move forward.”
