Cape Town welcomes NEW VENUE for international rugby games

Up until now, Cape Town Stadium has been the main venue for international rugby tests and club games in the region.
Ever since the Stormers migrated from their traditional grounds in Newlands, Green Point has been the headquarters for rugby action in Cape Town.
Stellenbosch’s Danie Craven Stadium is also known to host the odd URC game.
Now, thanks to a state-of-the-art rugby field under development in Cape Town’s northern suburbs, the Mother City will have a third hosting option.
The field is part of Stadio's new university campus in Durbanville. The field is designed to meet World Rugby’s standards for artificial rugby turf and will open to players in February 2026, just in time for the campus's first academic year.
JSE-listed private higher education provider Stadio is looking to enhance the Western Cape's educational landscape. The registered private higher education institution now boasts 10 academic schools and over 50 accredited qualifications.
It offers both in-person and distance-learning options.
Rugby and sports development
Stadio's new Durbanville campus, covering over 13,000 square meters of facilities, will house not only academic buildings but also sports and recreation spaces, including this world-class rugby field.
The university's investment in sports facilities aligns with its goal to foster a vibrant student community, while also supporting sports development in the surrounding area.
"Apart from investing in sports facilities, such as our rugby field and multi-sport courts, we are building relationships with sports clubs in the area to offer students opportunities to compete at competitive levels," said Stadio CEO Chris Vorster.
To support student life, Stadio is collaborating with developers to offer accommodation options close to campus, along with other communal amenities.
This includes an underpass between the Stadio campus and Curro Durbanville so that sports facilities can be shared.
