Blitzboks fightback floors USA
The Blitzboks started their Perth Sevens title bid with a 24-19 victory over the USA on day one of the tournament on Friday morning.
Two tries in either half saw the Blitzboks complete an epic comeback win over the USA, with a late touch-downs by veteran Selvyn Davids and Ronald Brown turning the tide in South Africa’s favour.
The Blitzboks took an early 12-0 lead after an explosive start which resulted in tries Ricardo Duarttee and Quewin Nortje, but a drop in urgency coupled with poor defence saw them concede two tries just before half-time as they went into the break trailing 14-12.
The USA would extend their advantage with another five-pointer soon after the restart, but the Blitzboks steadied the ship and Davids’ breakaway closing the deficit to two points before Brown’s self-converted effort clinched the win at the death.
The Blitzboks return to action at 13:52 when they face hosts Argentina in their second pool match of the tournament.
WILL THE BLITZBOKS GO ALL THE WAY TO THE CUP FINAL IN PERTH?
