Aussies head north in prep for Lions hunt

An Australian 15-man squad is set to tour Britain in November, aiming to build the Wallabies’ depth ahead of next year’s British & Irish Lions series.

The squad will face Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate on 8 November and England's A team at Twickenham Stoop on 17 November.

With the Wallabies’ recent struggles, there are fears they may not be competitive against the Lions next year, a point that has worried the Australian rugby community.

Rob Seib, the Brumbies assistant coach, has been named head coach for this short tour.

“The tour also gives us a chance to expand our depth ahead of next year’s British and Irish Lions tour and it gives coach Joe Schmidt and his assistants the chance to see more players in action,” Rugby Australia’s high performance director Peter Horne said in a statement.

The Wallabies are also preparing for a challenging Grand Slam tour, with Tests against England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, marking 40 years since their last Grand Slam victory in Britain.
