Boks get Duane to carry more than water

Two-time World Cup winner Duane Vermeulen showcased his immense value and expertise along the touchlines for the Springboks against Portugal in Bloemfontein.

Vermeulen has made a seamless transition from playing into coaching after joining SA Rugby's ranks this year. The former Bok hardman was officially appointed in a "roving coaching role with all SA Rugby's national teams", yet has mostly been with the world champions since the July series against Ireland.

On Saturday, he was seen engaged in intense discussion with the Bok management via earpiece while acting as a waterboy, and was even spotted giving a team talk to the players.

However, the 38-year-old has spent some time with the South Africa's U20s in Cape Town, and is reportedly part of a major restructuring plan to address the failings of the Junior Springboks.
