An inspired second-half comeback attempt was dashed by a dramatic late drop-goal as the Springboks fell to their first defeat of the year and drew the series with Ireland in Durban.

Having gone into the break trailing 16-6, the Springboks turned the game on its head in the second half, with Handre Pollard kicking eight penalties for a 24-19 lead going into the final 10 minutes of the clash.

However, Ireland’s replacement flyhalf Ciaran Frawley struck two late drop goals – the second after the fulltime hooter – as the visitors snatched a 25-24 win and a series draw at Kings Park.
