Murray Koster has been slapped with a lengthy suspension for his foul play in the clash between the Sharks and Benetton.

Koster was red carded for a reckless head-on-head collision at the breakdown during the Vodacom URC round 17 match at Kings Park.

Referee Mike Adamson ejected the Sharks inside centre in the 76th minute, citing Law 9.20 – a player must not charge into a ruck or maul.

Koster acknowledged the foul play and didn't contest his dismissal. The disciplinary committee, led by Simon Thomas, found that the incident met the red card threshold, with "entry of top-end warranting 10 weeks".

The midfielder's exemplary disciplinary record saw him receive a five-week suspension. Completion of the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme could reduce the sanction by one week.

As it stands, the 25-year-old is unavailable for the Sharks' clash with Cardiff in Durban on Saturday as well as their historic Challenge Cup final appearance next Friday and last match of the URC season, against the Vodacom Bulls on 1 June.
