Scotland edged out Wales 35-29 at Murrayfield to record three consecutive Six Nations wins over their rivals for the first time in their history.

It’s the first time that Scotland have racked up as many consecutive wins over the Dragons since between 1989-1991 during the Five Nations-era.

Wales have often enjoyed great success against Gregor Townsend’s men having emerged victorious in 13 out of their last 17 Six Nations matches prior to Saturday’s meeting.

However the Dragons were second best in Edinburgh as they fell to their 16th successive Test defeat as Scotland lifted the Doddie Weir trophy.

In doing so, they have equalled Italy’s unwanted record in being just the second tier one team to lose as many matches in a row in the professional era.

Matt Sherratt’s side have now lost their last ten Six Nations outings and seem destined to receive the wooden spoon for the second year running.

It was Wales that got off to the perfect start after Gareth Anscombe put the visitors 3-0 up following a third-minute penalty.

But just three minutes later it was 7-3 in Scotland’s favour after Blair Kinghorn went over for a try, before Finn Russell nailed the conversion.

And with 11 minutes on the clock, it was 14-3 thanks to Tom Jordan’s try, with Russell again kicking for the extra two points.

Wales looked to spark a comeback through Blair Murray’s try, though Anscombe missed his conversion.

Darcy Graham then extended Scotland’s lead just before the half-hour mark, with Russell making no mistake.

Jordan then went over his second try of the match in the 33rd minute, with Russell converting as Scotland threatened to run riot.

It was the first time since 2021 and just the second time in their history that Scotland have scored four first half tries in a Six Nations match – and the second time this tournament Wales have conceded as many having done so in their 43-0 defeat to France.

And when Kinghorn went over for his second try in the 48th minute with Russell converting, Scotland looked to be on course for their biggest victory over Wales in the 142-year history of the fixture.

Instead, they were made to hold onto the victory following a late Wales onslaught which saw tries from Ben Thomas and Teddy Williams.

Taulupe Faletau then scored a try in the 77th minute to silence Murrayfield, though it was eventually ruled after Murray was deemed to have jumped out of a tackle – much to the relief of the home fans.

Though they did get their third try of the half in the 84th minute through Max Llewellyn, as they secured a losing bonus point in what was an enthralling encounter.

Wales will be looking to win their first Six Nations match in two years when they welcome England to Cardiff in the game of the tournament.

As for Scotland, they pit their wits against leaders France in Paris in what promised to be an exciting affair.
