There has, quite rightly, been much recent discussion about reparations for slavery, but there has been little acknowledgment of the soldiers from the Indian army who assisted Britain in the second world war. What a wonderful programme Mobeen Azhar made on this subject for Channel 4, The Soldiers That Saved Britain (TV tonight, 2 November). How outrageous that this is not taught in the curriculum.

• Noël Coward was the producer, scriptwriter and composer for In Which We Serve (1942), as well as starring in the film and directing it (From Anna Kendrick to Dev Patel – how easy is it for actors to direct themselves?, 29 October). To help with the logistics of this, he roped in a youngish man from the cutting room as co-director: David Lean.
