Andy Farrell confirms shortlist for British & Irish Lions captaincy

British and Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell named his coaching ticket for this summer’s tour of Australia yesterday, but the next big question is who will be his tour captain down under?

Lots of names have been mentioned over the last few weeks and months and Farrell says there are as many as six players on his shortlist for the captaincy this summer.

"There are maybe four, five, six on the list," Farrell said of his captaincy candidates.

"When you narrow it down, this is the right number to fit the schedule and what you need and which hybrid players can play in different positions.

"Then you consider who are the leaders within that, what are the dynamics of a leadership group and who is going to be capable of being themselves and comfortable in and around all that. It takes a little bit of a process, rather than diving straight in."

Maro Itoje, Caelan Doris, and Jac Morgan are believed to be three of the names on that list with Farrell set to name his squad and skipper in a live ceremony at the O2 Arena on May 8.
