Vodacom Bulls coach Jake White has revealed when star No 8 Cameron Hanekom will return to the playing field.

The 22-year-old has been sidelined since the Bulls’ 33-32 win against the Stormers in Cape Town earlier this month.

“Cameron’s calf is not yet where we can pick him again,” White said after naming his team for Saturday’s North-South derby at Loftus.

“If he gets a tear in the calf, he’s going to be out for a long time and we’re not going to take that chance with him.

“He and [loose forward] Marcell [Coetzee] will be ready for our next game against Leinster [at Loftus on 22 March].”

TEAM: Bok back at No 8 for Bulls

Nizaam Carr will wear the Bulls No 8 jersey on Saturday in the only change to the starting XV that beat the Lions at Loftus last weekend, with Mpilo Gumede dropping down to the bench.

“We decided on Nizaam because he always has a touch of extra motivation when he plays against his old team,” White said. “And with the expected rain, we prefer to have a heavier pack on the field late in the game.”

White was also asked about the apparent decline of the Stormers, who are 10th on the Vodacom URC log with just four wins in 11 matches.

“I guess it’s just the cycle of sport, with teams building momentum or losing it. All teams go through that, but I’m not saying the Stormers are on a downward curve.

“I just hope we can play our best rugby against the Stormers for once, because for some reason we don’t get it right against them.

“They like to beat you with pressure passes and they scored five tries against us in the last game, one of which started from deep in their half,” White added. “That’s what made them such a successful team the last three, four seasons.”
