Bulls coach parts ways with the Herd

The Vodacom Bulls have reached a mutual agreement to allow defence coach Gary Gold to leave the franchise after just one season.

A former Springbok assistant coach and the USA Eagles head coach, Gold has decided to spend more time with his family in Cape Town, according to a report in Sunday newpsaper Rapport.

Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone confirmed the move, stating, “Gary’s family lives in Cape Town, and he decided to spend more time with them. We have jointly decided that Jean will take over for the upcoming season.”

Rathbone added that this will be the only change in the Bulls' management team.

Gold praised his time with the Bulls, saying, “I loved my time at the Bulls. It’s just a shame we couldn’t get the win in the URC final.” He also mentioned that his role was always short-term and that he would now focus on consulting work.

Jean Tiedt, who joined the Bulls after winning the Varsity Cup with Pukke, worked closely with Gold and will now oversee the Bulls' defence heading into the new season.
