A front-row powerhouse at the Sharks is reportedly in discussions to join the Stormers as Steven Kitshoff's long-term replacement at loosehead prop.

With two-time World Cup winner Kitshoff forced into retirement due to a serious neck injury, the Stormers are looking for a new No 1 and according to Rapport, prop Ntuthuko Mchunu has emerged as the prime target.

The 25-year-old Springbok has struggled for game time at the Sharks, where Ox Nche remains first choice, with a move to Cape Town set to offer him more opportunities.

The Stormers are also excited about 23-year-old Vernon Matongo, with a source telling Rapport, "Vernon is going to be a special player." He will compete with Mchunu, Ali Vermaak and Leon Lyons for the loosehead role.

The Stormers may also be looking at Griquas' Corne Lavanga as an option. However, veteran prop Lizo Gqoboka is not expected to have his contract renewed after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury.
