French club Brive have reportedly struck a deal to bring a powerful member of the DHL Stormers pack to the Pro D2 as cover for injured Wales international Ross Moriarty.

According to France Bleu Limousin, Hendre Stassen joined Pro D2 side Brive on Monday, as a medical joker. This refers to a player who is signed on a short-term basis, to provide cover for an injury.

Stassen, who can play lock and loose forward, will replace Moriarty – the 30-year-old has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Stassen, 26, joined the Stormers towards the close of the 2023-24 season, but is set for a return to France after featuring sporadically for the Cape outfit. He represented Stade Francais during 2018 and 2019.

Stassen will team up with former Sharks flyhalf Curwin Bosch and former Bulls prop Marcel van der Merwe in Brive-la-Gaillarde.

Brive, who sit in second spot on the Pro D2 table, are building a strong South African contingent with reports suggesting former Southern Kings lock Irne Herbst will join the side from Premiership side Harlequins next season.
