CEO Arni van Rooyen remains hopeful of Griquas hosting a Springbok match this year as SA Rugby are reviewing the current Test hosting model.

According to a Rapport article, SA Rugby is expected to meet soon to discuss changes after last year's model saw major unions profit while smaller unions, like Griquas, missed out. The revised structure could see smaller unions benefit financially from hosting rights.

“A final presentation on this [Griquas’ request to host a Bok Test] will be tabled at the next meeting,” Van Rooyen told Rapport.

It is understood that Griquas have previously lobbied SA Rugby, arguing that they are the only local franchise not hosting Test matches, resulting in a significant financial setback. They proposed staging a Bok Test at Ellis Park or in Soweto, potentially in partnership with the Lions.

Van Rooyen also highlighted Griquas' past struggles, noting that despite gaining franchise status in 2017, they were overlooked for playing in competitions like the Vodacom URC.
