WHILE the focus has been on the Six Nations in recent weeks, the spotlight now turns to the URC with Munster welcoming Scarlets to Thomond Park on Saturday, 5.15pm.

No doubt, the home side will be ‘raring to go’ after the break and a home win is certainly on the cards.

Welsh rugby has been under the cosh of late and the performances of the national team have been well below par to say the least.

Their club URC league positions at present, however, have been promising with Cardiff sitting in fifth and Scarlets in sixth. Munster, who are in seventh, have now a great chance to move forward if Connacht beat Cardiff.

Munster’s new signing of Dan Kelly from Leicester Tigers for next season will fill a gap in one of the centre positions.

Garryowen’s Bryan Fitzgerald, who joined the province on a six-month period, has returned to his club and prop Dian Bleuler, who has served the Munster cause well, is back with the Sharks.

The Ireland dream of three Six Nations titles in a row continues and the win over Scotland was well accomplished.

Not for the first time this season, the spotlight was on Munster second row Tadhg Beirne, who is in tremendous form and could yet be named captain for the Lions Tour.

Young Munster's Calvin Nash marked his comeback with a well-taken try. Peter O’Mahony deserved his comeback, but Jack Crowley came on too late to make an impact.

It was a game that was marred with stoppages for injuries and it highlighted the dangers of the current game. A recent survey revealed that concussion incidence remained unchanged and playing more than 25 matches in one season had a 38% risk.

Ireland are now the only unbeaten team in this Guinness Six Nations and next up is a Triple Crown visit to Wales the weekend after next.
