Sidestep the Boks ballot, buy a Stormers season ticket

Cape Town’s loyal rugby base can be guaranteed the option to purchase a ticket to watch the Springboks play the Wallabies at Cape Town Stadium if they are a 2025/26 Stormers season ticket holder.

The alternative is to risk of going into SA Rugby’s ticket ballot – now the standard system for ticket allocation to popular sporting events across the globe – and missing out on the opportunity to watch the world champions take on Australia in the Mother City the first time since 2014.

“This was our way of trying to give back to loyal fans,” said Stormers CEO Johan le Roux. “There’s been some speculation and this is to clarify the offering.”

The Stormers recently launched a promotion of their season tickets, inclusive of the right to buy a ticket to the Cape Town Test against the Wallabies on 23 August.

While it is possible to purchase Test tickets without a season ticket, there is no guarantee of success as all expressions of interest are entered into SA Rugby’s ticket ballot – the same system that was used during the 2021 British & Irish Lions tour, and both of the All Blacks Tests in South Africa last year, all of which were grossly over-subscribed.

Season-ticket holders have a first right to purchase a Test ticket, with SA Rugby ensuring an allotment of Bok tickets that equals the demand from their season ticket holders.

In years gone by, the unions would control the sale of Test tickets at their venues, but this is a commercial function now controlled by SA Rugby, and the only benefit the unions can offer their supporters is the guarantee that if they want to purchase a ticket to watch the Boks, they can.

This purchasing opportunity is in addition to all home games in the Currie Cup, URC and European cup competitions but, in the Stormers’ case, the current season tickets promotion is only valid until the team returns from their two-match European tour at the end of March.
