Scotland’s age grade side are ready to “get into France” in Paris on Friday night, says full-back Jack Brown, after an “80 minute performance” saw the side to victory over Wales.

“All the boys will be absolutely flying high in confidence now, so we’ll look to build on that,” he said of a strong performance capped off with a try of his own.

In their final outing of the series, they take on a side with three wins from four, including a 63-19 win over Wales last month.

“Obviously they’ve had a good competition but we’re also coming off the back of a win, so we’ll look to have a go at them of course,” said Brown, “I certainly think our defence is functioning, it’s one of the best in the competition.”

“Tonight you saw it, you saw it, against Ireland you saw it as well,” before adding “if we get our attack flowing as well. Some of the tries we’ve shown over the competition shows how dangerous we are in attack when we push the red button.”

The result was a culmination of efforts building since the start of the tournament, after waiting two years for victory in the U20s Six Nations, but Brown says the winning difference came down to their “ability to stick tight as a group.”

“We stuck to our process, stuck to the system and to the game plan,” said Brown.

“We knew that Wales were going to come at us attacking-wise,” he added “They had a very good back three, a lot of pace, a lot of speed, so we had to respect that that.”

For all the talk of team’s progress, it has not been lost on those watching how far the 19 year old has come in recent months.

“I didn’t get to the Six Nations last year so it’s really good to get that exposure this year,” he said. “Just playing against the best teams which is really good and so helpful for my development.”

The full-back’s progression has no doubt been accelerated by the side’s chance to train with both the Glasgow Warriors and senior Scotland sides during the fallow weeks.

“Unbelievable,” as Brown described it. “Getting to train against full pros, they play at such speed, which is really good to get you on your feet, thinking all the time.”

A opportunity that has given the player a yardstick with which to measure his own career ambitions.

“It’s good to train against them so we know what we need to get to.”

“Obviously we all strive to be playing in the international jersey one day,” said Brown, “so wins like this are really good for us.”
