Voss doubles down on prediction that Lam will be the next coach of Souths

SEN's Andrew Voss has confidently stated that Adrian Lam will be the next man to join South Sydney Rabbitohs, for the second time in the space of a week.

The Rabbitohs pulled the pin on Jason Demetriou's time at the club on Tuesday night but with that decision being viewed as a foregone conclusion weeks prior, the discussion around the next coach was already in full swing.

With the likes of Wayne Bennett and Mal Meninga being tossed around as likely candidates, there's one name that hasn't been mentioned that should be, according to Voss.

"Representatives of South Sydney come back from England with more than the signature of a player who had verbally agreed," Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

"You're not flying all the way over there (for one signing), I'm saying they come back with more than one player possibly, I don't know who that's going to be but I think they're in the market for players."

Voss' comments refer to the Rabbitohs' representative flying to England to secure the services of highly-touted English playmaker Lewis Dodd, who will join the club from 2025 onwards.

"I think, if they're over and they have no coach, and I'm just saying, I don't think it's Sam Burgess' signature that they're getting, Adrian Lam is the next cab off the rank," Voss added.

"He's there, he's ready and he's willing, and he's made no secret of it.

"Lam, who's (an) assistant to Mal Meninga with the Australian side, that's pretty good posting to have him ready.

"He's served his apprenticeship, he's ready… and he coaches in the NRL for the first time."

Lam has been coaching in England since 2019, serving as the mentor for Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards for a combed 127 games.

The 53-year-old recently led the Leigh Leopards to a stunning Grand Final win in the Challenge Cup in 2023 and is off contract at the end of this year.
