As proceedings kicked off in the West Country, Quins enjoyed territory and possession throughout the opening exchanges.
The visitors were opting to use their lineout as an attacking springboard in the Gloucester 22 metre area.
Despite it proving successful platform, the red wall was holding firm and keeping the visitors at bay.
Handling errors were proving costly for Quins too as periods of sustained pressure went without points.
At the other end of the pitch, Gloucester struck with 12 minutes on the clock.
Josh Hathaway the beneficiary of a floated pass from Gareth Anscombe following a first-phase strike move.
Afolabi Fasogun thought he had a second for Gloucester a few moments later, but on second review the young tighthead placed the ball short of the line before rolling it onto the line.
Chances came few and far between for Quins, before Gloucester got their driving maul up and running to double their lead through Jack Clement.

Following the break, Quins struggled to gain a foothold in the game and build meaningful momentum.
A stunning 60-metre break from Oscar Beard looked to give Quins a spark, but uncharacteristic handling errors thwarted the Quarters as they worked their way into the red zone.
Dino Lamb thought he was put through by Will Porter to bring Quins back into the game, however the scrumhalf's pass was clearly forward.
Hathaway could have had a second for the hosts too, but for the unpredictable bounce of a rugby ball.
The second-half remained scoreless with Gloucester's first-half scores proving the difference on the night.
